About
Maja Højgaard is a Danish designer and ceramics artist based in Beder near Aarhus, Denmark. Her work varies from beautifully designed tableware with local sand and pebbles to smoke fired urns and vases. Maja is inspired by the Nordic Nature that surrounds her and especially the raw nature of Iceland has been a big inspiration to her since her internship with Icelandic ceramicist Margrét Jónsdóttir in 2017. Her smoke fired works are carefully made with an eye for the detail and each pot is unique as she rarely throws the same pot twice. The pots are smoke fired overnight and in the morning the markings on the pots are revealed as she washes off the ashes.
Maja Højgaard graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in June 2020 and can now be found teaching ceramic classes at Testrup Højskole.
